Photo Appropriation
Choose an old photograph. Use the image to summon ideas for an opening or plot for a flash fiction piece, poem, or micro-drama A dialogue can be created, as well, between characters and the writer. For example, using the photograph on the left, one might begin: "My father opened his dresser drawer and pulled out a lost photo of his father. Tears welled in his eyes. He stared a moment toward a place far away, enough to hold the nearness of his past, and then some." One can find old photographs online, or be adventurous and visit a local antique shop with a box or two of such photographs. You might have an old lot hiding in a closet around the house.
